While trying to print one and one-half sheets of address labels using Word on Staples product, the first sheet (page 2, with only half of the sheet used) prints fine but the second sheet (page 1, with all labels used) stops printing about one-half the way completed. The printer stops and an E2 error appears. Have tried adjusting paper type to HP photo, HP matte and other thinking it was a paper weight issue; still halts printing on second sheet. Any thoughts on how to proceed with finishing all labels appreciated!

Hi @Mark21755,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The E2 error on your HP ENVY 6455e printer typically indicates a paper size mismatch or other printing configuration issues. Since you've already tried adjusting the paper type, here are additional steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check Paper Size Settings

  • In Microsoft Word, confirm that the label document's paper size matches the actual label sheet's size.
  • Ensure the printer's paper size settings also match (e.g., Letter, A4).
    • In Word, go to File > Print > Printer Properties to check and update settings.

Verify Page Layout

  • Ensure that the labels' layout in Word matches the label sheet. Use the built-in label templates in Word if available.
    • In Word, go to Mailings > Labels > Options, and select the correct label brand and product number.

Use HP Smart App for Diagnostics

  • Open the HP Smart app and run a diagnostic to detect and fix issues.
    • Look for any printer-specific warnings or recommendations related to paper feed or alignment.

Print in Smaller Batches

  • Try printing only one sheet at a time to determine if it's a paper feed or processing issue.
    • Go to File > Print and specify only Page 1 or Page 2 in the print range.

Clean Rollers and Check Paper Alignment

  • Make sure the printer's rollers are clean and free of dust. Dirty rollers can cause feeding issues.
    • Ensure the label sheets are flat and properly aligned in the tray.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Outdated firmware can cause printing errors. Update your printer firmware using the HP Smart app:
    • HP Smart > Printer Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer.

Adjust Print Quality Settings

  • Go to Printer Properties and lower the print quality (e.g., set it to "Draft" or "Normal").
    • This can reduce processing time and avoid mid-print halts.

Test Alternative Drivers

  • If the problem persists, try installing the HP Universal Print Driver or manually selecting a different printer driver model to test compatibility.

Check for Paper Weight and Type Compatibility

  • Labels can be heavier or have different surface textures that might cause jams or errors.
    • Refer to the printer's specifications for supported label types and weights.
    • Use HP-recommended label sheets if possible.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
