While trying to lock down my printer by diabling WiFi Direct and setting an admin password, I got locked out. I am sure the admin password is correct as I copied/pasted it within the same buffer session and have it saved in my password manager (not browser autofill).
After a two failed attempts with the new password and one with a blank password, I got the admin lockout message "Your session is locked. Try again later."
I tried resetting the network configuration per another forum post (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Inkjet-Printing/How-do-I-unlock-the-administrator-lock-on-my-printer-s...) as well as power cycling the printer after resetting the network config, but I'm still locked out.
What went wrong? I used an alphanumeric password (no specials), 20 characters long. There was no password validation prompt saying it was invalid.
Why is resetting to factory defaults so hard, and how do I do it?

As a fun second issue, when clicking the "Finding your post again is easy! Simply log in to the community and click on your username. Click here to go there now" link in the email, I get a nice 404 message.
And trying to paste that link into this message throws "Your post has been changed because invalid HTML was found in the message body. The invalid HTML has been removed. Please review the message and submit the message when you are satisfied."
Get it together guys.

So after some digging, I found that pressing the darkend (unilluminated) back button four times allows me to access the support menu> resets menu. I did a semi-full reset, went through the setup again, and I'm still locked out. One bonus is that now WiFi direct is back ON, and I can't turn it off again.
I just want a secure-ish WiFi printer that isn't a hole in my network. WiFi direct off, require an admin password, disabled email printing.

Found the factory reset hidden under Printer Maintenance > Restore. That allowed me to get back into the webUI with no password and disable unwanted features.
Now if I could just set a password on this thing...
