HP ENVY 7640
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am having difficulty printing 4 x 6 photos without borders.  I am using a Dell laptop  running Windows 10 and printing from Canon Zoombrowser software.  I've printed bordless photos for quite some time with the same software/hardware configuration so I know it can be done.  I've had this problem in the past and the solution was to uninstall and reinstall the software.  However, in the past week I have done a number of uninstalls/reinstalls and I'm looking for another solution if there is one.  This week I experienced a "printer is offline" issue.  Prior to that becoming an issue I was able to print borderless photos.  As I said I did unintall/reinstall a number of times since I could not get the whole software suite to install properly using the software downloaded from HP.com.  Last night I installed from the CD and everything seemed to work fine with the exception of the borderless issue.  There must be another solution other than reinstalling the software.  This is a very cumbersome solution to a seemingly simple problem but considering the number of posts in this forum this problem has been happening for quite some time.  The last time this happened I went through some troubleshooting at the request of the person answering my post and the bottom line was to reinstall.  Can someone PLEASE help me with a permanent solution to this problem.  I patiently await a resolution.

Hi @georgedn,

Thank you for posting on HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I see by your post that you are trying to print borderless. I did some digging on this issue and found that the issue was resolved in some cases after reinstalling the basic drivers.

Let's start by performing a Hard reset on the printer, router, computer and other devices on the same network.

The following steps temporarily disconnect network and Internet connections and require restarting your computer. Complete any tasks or downloads in progress before continuing.

1. Press the Power button on the printer to turn it off.

2. Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

3. Disconnect the power cord from the wireless router.

4. Turn off the computer.

5. Wait for 30 seconds.

6. Reconnect the power cord to the wireless router.

7. Wait for 30 seconds, or until the router is fully on and ready

8. Turn the computer back on.

9. Wait for the computer to reload

10. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

11. Turn the printer back on.

Let’s try assigning a static IP to try and fix this issue. Follow the steps below:

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
  • Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
  • Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
  • Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
  • Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Once done, reinstall the printer drivers. Follow the steps below:

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click on   http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/en7640/EN7640__Full_WebPack_1107.exe to download and install the updated printer drivers.
  • In the connection type window, select “Wireless” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Once the drivers are installed follow the steps mentioned below to do a borderless printing.

  • Go to control panel – Devices and printers
  • Right-click on Envy 7640 and select “Printing preferences” option.
  • Go to “Paper/Quality” / “Layout” tab and select “Advanced tab”
  • Look for an option which says “Borderless printing” and make sure it’s turned “On”
  • Now go to the image you want to print, open the image with “Windows photo viewer” and make sure the correct settings are selected and then try to print.

PS: Borderless option is not supported while you are duplex printing (both the sides of the paper).

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Cheers!

Thanks for your reply.  Unfortunately, this did not resolve the issue.  I followed each step to the letter but it did not work.  I did go to control panel and add/remove programs and select all HP items to be uninstalled.  However, not all items were uninstalled.  These items remained in the start menu:  HP Envy 7640 Series, HP Send Fax and HP Twain Administration.  I right clicked on each item and clicked uninstall but they remained.

Please advise what to do next.  Thanks for your attention.

Additional information:  There are some HP software that I cannot uninstall.  When I use RevoUninstaller it tells me that it cannot uninstall something that is not there!!  HP Envy 7640 Series, HP Send Fax and HP Twain Administration still appear but when I ask Windows to go to the file location the install dates of these 3 are earlier than today when I supposedly resinstalled the entire software package.

Also, I've uninstalled some parts of the software package but those I just mentioned cannot be unstalled.  I must uninstall everything before I can reinstall all software.  There must be some tool to uninstall stubborn programs.
