I get just a few good quality pages with a new, genuine HP cartridge (a # 62) and if the printer sits for a few days unused, the printing quality diminishes to faint, unreadable copy.

This has continually happened since the printer was new.

I go through 3 cycles of cartridge cleaning, to no avail.

I have seen similar complaints elsewhere online for the same printer.

I am ready to toss the printer and start over with another manufacturer.

A warm welcome to HP Community!

Power resetting the printer and then performing an automated/manual cleaning may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

Please ensure the printer is up-to-date with its firmware. If you are unsure, you can download and install the latest firmware update from here.

1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector

2) Remove all of your ink cartridges from the printer and close the door

3) Remove the power cord from the back of the printer (Do no press the power button)

4) Clean the ink cartridges, refer to solution 3 from this document.

5) Plug the power cord back into the printer

6) Wait for the printer to turn on completely, then install the ink cartridges.

7) On the printer control panel, swipe the display to scroll to Setup, and then touch the Setup icon .

The Setup menu displays.

😎 Swipe the display to scroll to Printer Maintenance, and then touch Printer Maintenance.

9) Touch Clean Page Smears.

10) On the printer control panel, swipe the display to the left, and then touch Setup.

The Setup menu displays.

11) Swipe the display up, and then touch Printer Maintenance.

12) Touch Clean Cartridges. Touch Proceed when prompted to continue the next level of cleaning. Repeat these steps for the third cleaning stage

Let me know how it goes!

Followed the precise directions below to a "T" and have no change in the quality of my printed output.

Guess it's time for another printer.
