I changed the password in the Embedded Web Server > Settings > Security > Password Settings from the default (admin / no password) to my personal password and I can no longer sign in. HP EWS says, The user name and password entered are incorrect. For greater security, the authentication session is locked. Try again later.

The password is correct! I know the user is all lower case - admin, but for sanity I also tried ADMIN, Admin, and even my email. The password is one of several I use frequently.

I'm using Chrome (Version 77.0.3865.90) on Mac OS 10.14.5. EWS has the 🔓icons on the home page so I know I entered the password correctly twice! I tried deleting history and cookies, tried Safari, did a complete shutdown, and also waited more than 12 hours. I still cannot sign in.

Now I'm here posting here to see if someone can help resolve this issue.

It appears there is a max 16 limit character when creating your own password. I just omitted the last character and I was able to sign in. HP EWS doesn't mention character limits in the password criteria nor did EWS prompt me that I exceeded the limit!

You can set a password to prevent unauthorized users from remotely configuring the printer or viewing printer settings from the embedded web server (EWS). Once set, this password is required to change or view many printer settings from the EWS.

The password can only consist of the following printable ASCII characters: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, and the following special characters:!"#$%&'()*+,-./:;<=>?@[\]^_`{|}~

To disable the password, leave the boxes blank.

I guess I'm one of those rare cases that use lengthy passwords. Lucky I was tech savvy enough to have thought of character limits.
