When I try to print a business size envelope from a Word document on my MacBook Air, the printer sounds like it's printing, but the envelope comes out completely blank. I never had this issue when I was using a Dell computer that used Windows 10. What could be the problem?

Hi @Longislander,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
Are you able to print on normal letter-size paper?
Are you able to scan and copy?
Did you any changes to your printer?
What application are you using to print envelopes?
What size of the envelope are you trying to print from your printer?
I have checked the printer specifications and please find the supported envelopes on your printer. If you are using a different type or size of the page, you may not be able to print the envelope.
Paper type
Paper size
B5 envelope
176 x 250 mm (6.9 x 9.8 in)
C5 envelope
162 x 229 mm ( 6.4 x 9.0 in)
DL envelope
110 x 220 mm (4.3 x 8.7 in)
Monarch envelope
98 x 191 mm (3.9 x 7.5 in)
U.S. 10 envelope
105 x 241 mm (4.1 x 9.5 in)
Refer the product specifications page for more information.
Try the steps recommended below to Print an envelope in Pages
1.In Pages, choose File > New (from the File menu at the top of your computer screen).
2.Click Stationery on the left side of the template chooser.
3.Scroll down to the Envelopes section, then double-click an envelope template.
4.Click Document, then click Document.
5.Choose an envelope size from the second pop-up menu in the Printer & Paper Size section.
6.On the envelope template, click placeholder text in the recipient address, then type the address.
You can add or delete lines as needed.
7.Double-click text in the return address, then type your address.
The return address is a text box. Drag the selection handles if you want to resize it.
8.Choose File > Print (from the File menu at the top of your computer screen), choose a printer from the pop-up Printer menu, then click Print.
To create personalized envelopes with your return address, you can save the envelope as a custom template. Your envelope template appears in the My Templates section of the template chooser if you save it there.
Refer to this document to learn more information about printing envelopes.
Let me know if this works!

I'm using Word on a MacbookAir.
I can print on letter size paper and scan without a problem.
I 'm trying to print business size envelopes, No. 10 (4-1/8" by 9.5" and I haven't had to do anything in the past except for loading envelopes, and adjusting the guides, and I've had no problems in the past using a Windows 10 computer.
I didn't make any changes to the printer.
In the instructions below, where do I find "Pages?"
Thanks.

Hi @Longislander,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To print envelopes using Word on your MacBook Air, follow these steps.
- Open Microsoft Word on your MacBook Air.
- Click on "File" in the top-left corner of the screen.
- Select "New Document" to create a new document.
- Click on "Layout" or "Document Setup" (depending on your Word version) in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
- In the Layout or Document Setup menu, select "Paper Size" and choose the appropriate envelope size (No. 10 - 4-1/8" by 9.5").
- Next, click on "Margins" and set the margins for the envelope. Typically, envelopes have different margin requirements compared to standard letter-size paper. You may need to adjust the margins accordingly.
- Once you've set the paper size and margins, close the Layout or Document Setup menu.
- Now, click on "Insert" in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
- Select "Text Box" from the dropdown menu, and then choose "Simple Text Box."
- A text box will appear on the document. You can type the recipient's address into this text box.
- Format the text as needed (e.g., font size, font style, alignment).
- After entering the recipient's address, you can print a test envelope to ensure everything is correctly aligned. To do this, insert an envelope into the printer's paper tray.
- Click on "File" in the top-left corner of the screen, then select "Print."
- In the Print dialog box, make sure the correct printer is selected.
- Click on the "Print" button to print the envelope.
Note: In Microsoft Word for Mac, "Pages" refers to the number of pages in your document. You can view the number of pages in your document at the bottom-left corner of the Word window.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I tried the steps you gave, but I still have the same issue -- the printer sounds like it's printing the envelope, but all I get is some smudges on the right side of the envelope rather than the printout of the addressee or the return address. When I print my usual way on my Windows 10 computer without going through all the steps you gave, it prints just fine. So, it seems to be a Mac compatibility issue. I'm using Word for Mac, version 16.83.

Hi @Longislander,
Thank you for your response,
It sounds like you're experiencing compatibility issues between your HP4650 InkJet printer and your Macbook Air when printing envelopes through Word for Mac. Here are some additional troubleshooting steps you can try.
Check Printer Settings:
- Ensure that the paper size and type settings on your printer match the settings in Word for Mac. Sometimes, mismatched settings can cause smudging or printing issues.
- Make sure that the envelope size selected in Word for Mac matches the size of the envelopes you are using.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Visit the HP support website and download the latest printer drivers for your HP4650 InkJet printer. New drivers might offer better compatibility with your Macbook Air and Word for Mac.
Reset Printing System:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Ctrl-click) on the printer list and select "Reset printing system."
- Re-add your printer and try printing again.
Test Different Envelopes:
- Try using different types or brands of envelopes to see if the issue persists. Sometimes, certain envelope materials may not work well with specific printers.
Print a Test Page:
- Print a test page directly from your printer's control panel to ensure that the printer itself is functioning correctly.
Check Ink Levels:
- Make sure that your printer has enough ink or toner to print properly. Low ink levels can sometimes cause printing issues.
By going through these steps, you should be able to diagnose and hopefully resolve the compatibility issue between your HP4650 InkJet printer and your Macbook Air when printing envelopes through Word for Mac.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

I did everything you suggested (including removing the printer, resetting and reinstalling the printer) and still the same. By the way, I have driver 3.0, but could not download updated drivers from the HP Support website. I can print #10 envelopes just fine using Word on my Windows 10 computer but not on my Mac. On my Mac, if I use regular paper instead of envelopes, it prints just fine from my Mac -- the addressee and the return address print centered on the page as if an envelope were in the paper supply, but still prints nothing when I put envelopes in the paper supply.
