I am trying to connect my Envy 100 D410 to my internet, however when I select the desired network, it asks for a WEP password. My network only has a WPA password, am I missing something? And what should I do?

Hi @ajoel123 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY 100 e-All-in-One Printer (D410) likely does not support WPA/WPA2 encryption, which is why it's asking for a WEP password. Some older HP printers only recognize WEP security, which is outdated and less secure.

Possible Solutions:

1. Check for a Firmware Update Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • Some HP printers received firmware updates to support WPA/WPA2.
  • Check for an update by visiting HP Support and searching for your printer model.
  • If you can temporarily connect the printer via USB, you might be able to update the firmware.

2. Change Router Settings (Not Recommended for Security)

  • Log into your router’s settings (usually by typing 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 into your web browser).
  • Find the Wireless Security settings.
  • If your router allows it, enable WEP security temporarily, connect your printer, and then switch back to WPA/WPA2.
    • Warning: WEP is insecure, and using it may expose your network to threats.

3. Use a Guest Network (If Available)

  • Some routers allow you to create a Guest Network with WEP security.
  • If you can create a guest network with WEP, connect your printer to it while keeping your main network secure.

4. Use HP Wireless Direct or USB Connection

  • If your printer supports HP Wireless Direct, you can print wirelessly without connecting to the router.
  • Alternatively, use a USB connection to print from your computer.

5. Consider a Wireless Print Server

  • If your printer only supports WEP and you can’t change your router settings, a wireless print server (small device that bridges modern WiFi to older printers) may help.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
