Envy 4500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When printing the various reports nd diagnostic pages (via the tools menu); not every line is printed.

For example, the print quality repost prints the line numbered 12, then line numbered 16, then 19..... etc. etc.

Cartridges are new, have run the clean printhead tool and even resorted to resetting to factory defaults.

Hello, @TenebraeSum – Hope you are well 🙂

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!  It is a wonderful place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel!

Going through your post, I see that you are facing issues with your Envy printer. To assist you with this issue, I need to know whether the printer can make a "Photocopy" or not.

Place a document face down on the scanner glass and press the copy option on the printer control panel. Let me know if it makes a good copy or not.

If the copy also fails to print correctly, then try the steps listed here: http://hp.care/2nZxfoV

Start with step 10 & 11.

Let me know if that helps!

Cheers 🙂

Hi,

Have tried steps 10 & 11.

When doing the alignment only alternate "lines" are printed. I scanned the alignment page get the alignment anyways and get the "alignment failed" message. When I simply do a rescan; I get the message that the "cartridges are set to default print quality". The problem remains.

I tried doing a copy, the colours are all wrong (wrongly "mixed"); and there are very obvious bands showing each pass of the print head (although all lines are printed out, so it's not a coloured band, white band alternating).

Hope this information is what you were after.

Hello, @TenebraeSum

It could be either an issue with the cartridges or with the printer itself.

First off, try to use the printer in single-cartridge mode. Remove the black cartridge from your printer and close the ink access door. This should initiate the single cartridge mode. Now, try printing.

If you are still getting the missing lines, then print using only the black cartridge.

If the issue is specific to one of the cartridges, try changing the cartridge and check.

Thanks, I'll watch for your reply!

I tried printing in the 'single cartridge' mode. The page came out blank when using the color cartridge only, and using the black cartridge alone printed one line and then skipped two lines for the entire page-long letter. Obviously the color cartridge is in need of replacing but what about the black cartridge, which has recently been replaced?

Thanks!

Hi, What was the outcome to this issue as I am having exactly the same problem with my HP Envy 4500 series printer. Thanks

No good outcome.... printer went in the trash... though I did dismantle it first and scavenged the motors... sold them to a tattooist; as they're the same motors his ink-gun uses lol

My printer (Envy 4500) was skipping every few lines of the document.  I took out the black cartridge (brand new I might add), and printed with just the color cartridge- it printed perfectly.  Now, I'm stuck with a "full" useless black cartridge.  Ink cartridges aren't cheap, so I'm pretty annoyed it was a defect on HP's part.  The hours I spent trying to fix this problem was also super annoying. Thank you to DVortex for posting this easy fix.  I wish I would have read it sooner.
