HP Envy 4502
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer is putting too much space in the top margin and not enough in the bottom when printing in portrait mode.  In landscape, it prints with too much space on the right edge and not enough on the left.

Hi @Larry-45,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 4502 printer is printing off-center, with incorrect margins in both portrait and landscape modes, it typically points to a misalignment issue or incorrect settings. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and fix this issue:

1. Check Printer Settings

Open Printer Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel on your computer, then Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your HP Envy 4502 and select Printing Preferences.

Adjust Margins:

  • In the Printing Preferences window, check the Page Setup or Margins settings. Ensure that the margins are set to standard values (usually 0.75 inches for top, bottom, left, and right).
  • Verify that you have the correct paper size selected (e.g., A4, Letter) and that the paper settings match the actual paper loaded in the printer.

Check Paper Size and Type:

  • Ensure that the paper size selected in the printer settings matches the paper you are using. Mismatched settings can cause alignment issues.

2. Align the Printheads

Access Printer Tools:

  • Open the HP Smart app or the HP Printer Assistant on your computer.

Printhead Alignment:

  • Go to Printer Maintenance or Tools and select Align Printheads.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to align the printheads.

3. Perform a Printer Calibration

  1. Calibration:
    • Some printers have a built-in calibration tool. Check the printer’s control panel or the HP software on your computer for a calibration option.
    • Follow the prompts to calibrate the printer, which can help correct margin and alignment issues.

4. Check Paper Loading

Paper Tray:

  • Ensure that paper is loaded correctly in the paper tray. Paper should be aligned against the guides and should not be skewed.

Paper Type:

  • Use the correct type of paper for your print job (e.g., plain paper, photo paper) and make sure it matches the paper type selected in the printer settings.

5. Update or Reinstall Printer Drivers

Update Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for the HP Envy 4502.
  • Install the updated drivers and restart your computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
