HP ENVY 4520 All-in-One Printer

I attempted to install the printer on a new computer. It was saying it had errors while trying to print a test page. In Windows event viewer these errors were logged:

A fatal error occurred while printing job Test Page, id 2 on the print queue HP4A3A66 (HP ENVY 4520 series). The print filter pipeline process was terminated. Error information: 0x8007003F.

Some time afterwards the printer's screen turned blue and all buttons on the printer became unresponsive. Unplugging the power cord, waiting, then plugging the cord back in has no effect, the blue screen reappears immediately. The power button has no effect. All buttons and the touchscreen are unresponsive. I have checked all cable connections and they are secure. The printer can not be found wirelessly or through usb connection by Windows or HP software.

I have tried factory resetting, but there was no change in the printers behavior.

Hi @JohnMaryAnn,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Envy 4520 printer is experiencing a serious hardware issue, especially since the screen is solid blue and all buttons are unresponsive. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem.

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Unplug the Printer: Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait: Leave it unplugged for at least 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect: Plug the power cord back in and see if the printer starts up normally.

Check for Hardware Issues

  • Inspect the Power Supply: Make sure the power cord is not damaged and is firmly connected to both the printer and the power outlet. If you have access to another compatible power cord, try using that.
  • Look for Lights: Check if any lights are blinking on the printer (other than the blue screen). This can sometimes indicate specific error codes.

Reset the Printer to Factory Settings (if possible)

Since you've attempted a factory reset, this may not be applicable, but typically, you would do the following:

  • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons on the printer for about 5 seconds until the printer begins to reset.

Try a Different Power Source

  • If possible, try plugging the printer into a different outlet or power strip to rule out any issues with the current power source.

Check for Overheating

  • If the printer has been running for a while, it may overheat. Allow it to cool down for a while before trying again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
