We've owned this Envy 4522 printer for several years without any problems, but the last time I replaced the black ink cartridge, the printer locked up. Its status screen says "Ink Cartridge Problem: Remove and reinstall..." but doing that fails  to clear the problem or allow printing. We've tried all the standard advice - cleaning the cartridge and printer contacts, unplugging and rebooting, etc.

Hoping someone has an easy fix for this

I understand that you are facing issues with cartridge errors.

Try updating the firmware. Click here

If you have performed all the steps from this document and still having issues, then this could be hardware.
