Envy 4524
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I cannot print from my mac to my Envy 4524.  I have set up airprint and from the printers website I can print a test page.  I can also print from my phone so airprint and the wireless appear to be working fine.   When I print from my mac (Word for example) I get "cannot connect to the printer" and then some considerable time later it may print the page or about a third of the page. When I say an age I mean upwards of 10 minutes.

I have removed and reinstalled the printer, I have reset the print settings, I have made sure I have the latest driver and now I am beginning to get a little frustrated.  OK a LOT frustrated.

Hello @Northy62, Thank you for your reply.

It looks like an issue with the MAC disk permissions. Try the below mention steps.

  • Follow this document to completely uninstall the printer software: http://hp.care/2cKwLyC
  • Also reset the printing system as explained in the above message. (Do not add the printer)
  • Access the Disk Utility by pressing “Command+Space” to open Spotlight search, type ”Disk Utility”, and press Enter. You can also click the Launchpad icon on your dock, click the “Other” folder, and click Disk Utility.
  • Select your Mac’s system partition — generally “Macintosh HD”. Click the “Verify Disk Permissions” button and wait till the process is completed.
  • Now click Repair Disk Permissions to check for problems and automatically fix them.
  • Restart your MAC and then go to http://hp.care/2d9xwkW to download and install the printer.

Please let me know whether that works for you. Good luck!

Cheers 🙂

Hello @Northy62, Greetings!

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! I came across your post about the printer issue and wanted to pop in to help.

I understand you are having issues while printing from your MAC, but working fine on your smartphone. Try the steps mentioned below to fix the issue:

  • Click the Apple menu icon, and then click System Preferences.
  • Click Printers and Scanners, Print and Scan, or Print and Fax.
  • Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click Reset printing system.
  • Click Reset in the confirmation window.
  • Enter an administrator username and password, and then click OK.
  • Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
  • Click the Add button (+).
  • Find, and then select the name of your printer from the Printer list, and then click Add to add your printer.
  • Click Print Using..., and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)

You can check http://hp.care/2bZg8xA for detailed troubleshooting steps.

That should do the trick. Let me know!

Cheers 🙂
