I just got the HP Envy 4527. I have about 3 issues.
The control panel displays says the ip address is one thing but when I search for it using the printer software, it cannot be found. I used another ip address which somehow worked and the printer was found using that. Yet the control panel still lists the original ip and the diagnostic print out also has that address.
I entered both ip addresses into my browser and was able to access my printer settings using both addresses. The alleged ip address is listed there as well.
I'm trying to figure out whether this confusion has lead to the problems I have below.
2nd issue is that I cannot print over my wi-fi network. I have to directly connect to the printer whether using a laptop or mobile phone. This is inconvenient since when I connect directly, I cannot use the internet as I am no longer connected to my network. Then I have to reconnect to my network when I'm done using the printer.
3rd issue is that I cannot set up HP ePrint. It says Setup Unsuccessful when I try to set it up.
Can anyone help me?

There is your answer. You never want to connect to a public WiFi as other will find it and waste your paper and ink. Your University most likely is using Enterpirse Authentication (username/password, student ID or something). Home printer do not support his.
You can use Wireless Direct by the best would be just use a USB cable. If you have an Ethernet port in your room this may work:
Read here on why you can't connect your wireless printer to a network requesting additional security and information (username and password). Instant Ink help here too.

Yes I normally use a wireless router. It's what I'm using right now. However, I can't seem to use the Envy 4527 over that network even though the printer, my laptop and cell phone are all connected to that network.
I can only use the printer if I wirelessly connect to it directly. So the printer's wifi is clearly working but I still can't connect to it over my normal wifi network.
And there's the odd stuff with the ip addresses.

Ok, thanks for the advice on the public network thing. It's very good advice actually. I suppose I got complacent and maybe a bit too excited about getting to use this wireless printer.
I have neither a USB cable nor Ethernet cable so I would have to buy a USB cable if I'm going to do that.
Is using Wi-fi Direct a problem though if I manually set a password for it?

No not a problem, but remember, once connected to the printers SSID, you are not connected to the Internet. You cannot be connect to the internet (wirelessly) and print at the same time. That is why Wireless Direct is only for folks who don't have a router. They use their cell phones and tablets to connect via 3/4G via cell service and can printer using the printers SSID now.
Best to use a Printer USB cable like this.
