I've deleted the printer and re-added, I've aligned and cleaned cartridges. I recently installed HP brand black ink and that's when the problem started and it's used up over half of the ink.

Try making a standalone copy in color and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.
Update the printer firmware
Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your MAC.
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Also, check for any software updates on MAC
Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
Perform the steps mentioned in this document - Black or Color Ink Not Printing, Other Print Quality Issues
Check the ink levels, clean the ink cartridge and print a print quality page to check the result.
