HP ENVY 6055e All-in-One Printer

My HP Envy continues to print fine when needed and has no error codes and ink cartridges are fine, however it all of sudden starts making chiming noises about every 10 minutes like it is refreshing it's settings similar to a reboot where it runs through a refresh and the lights blink the red X to stop displays and it goes through what appears to be a maintenance cycle then chimes and calms when done. I can't get it to stop doing this every 10 minutes or so and it is annoying. I have unplugged and replugged, and confirmed at highest firmware available. I have replaced the paper and no paper jams or concerns as it prints fine when needed. I have taken out the ink cartridges and wiped connections and no visible dust or ink issues and reinserted the cartridges. It prints fine, but the jingle/chime noises are annoying and won't stop.

@DanPizza, Great to hear that unchecking the Microsoft Web Services has led to progress with your printer entering Energy Saving Mode! That sounds like a step in the right direction, especially since the lights have dimmed and the cycling has stopped.

As for the Microsoft Web Services, they typically help with network discovery and printing over a network, but if you're only using Apple devices, they shouldn’t be essential for your HP Instant Ink subscription. However, it’s always a good idea to double-check with HP’s support for Instant Ink-specific details to be sure, just in case there's a subtle requirement for those services.

If the printer still seems a bit too chatty with its maintenance cycles, consider resetting it to factory settings as a final step to see if that clears up any underlying glitches.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

@DanPizza, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Continuous Cleaning Noises on HP Envy 6000 Printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP Envy 6000 printer is engaging in frequent maintenance cycles. This issue, while disruptive, can often be resolved by following a few troubleshooting steps:

Turn Off and Unplug

  • Turn off the printer and unplug its power cord.
  • Wait for about 10 seconds.
  • Plug the cord back in and turn on the printer.

Check Printer Screen for Instructions

  • Ensure that any prompts or error messages displayed on the printer screen are addressed.

Investigate Power Supply

  • Ensure that the printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a power strip, as power strips can cause power issues.

Review Print Settings and Layout

  • When not printing, examine if the printer settings may initiate frequent maintenance cycles. Ensure settings are optimized for regular use.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Sometimes the printer firmware update can resolve bugs and issues such as frequent maintenance cycles. Check HP’s website for the latest firmware updates.

Avoid Long Periods of Inactivity

  • Printers can perform automatic maintenance after long periods of inactivity to ensure quality output. Regularly using the printer might reduce these cycles.

Unplug and Plug Back In

  • This can reset certain functions of the printer and may resolve continuous cleaning cycles.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Zoey.  Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately the printer still is performing frequent maintenance cycles. I have performed all of the tasks you listed below and no improvement. I unplugged and replugged, confirmed the power cord is directly plugged into a socket and we have had no power interruptions or outages in my local area. The power cord shows no visible sign of wear and the printer remains in the same location since we purchased this printer. I reviewed the printer settings and layout and adjusted the settings to enable quiet mode, lowered printer light brightness, tray and paper settings are optimal, print quality reports all show optimal, and actual printing remains fine. I confirmed Firmware is at the latest/current version built date 12/17/2024 (VASBYTPP2N0001.2451A.00) using the HP Smart App version 18.10.1. We continue to print at least weekly so not leaving it unused.

The printer still continues frequent maintenance cycles.  What else do you suggest?

@DanPizza, Thanks for the detailed follow-up — I can imagine how frustrating and distracting those constant chimes and cleaning noises must be, especially when everything else is working fine. You've already done an excellent job with the basic troubleshooting.

Since the issue persists, here are a couple of deeper steps you can try:

1. Disable Web Services (if enabled):
Sometimes, background tasks linked to HP’s cloud printing or updates can trigger maintenance-like behavior.

Open the HP Smart app, go to your printer settings, and disable Web Services if they’re on.

2. Energy Saving Settings / Sleep Mode:

On the printer’s control panel or through the HP Smart app, check the Sleep Mode or Auto-Off settings.

Try adjusting the timer or turning off "Wake on LAN" if that’s available — sometimes it keeps the printer semi-active and fussy.

3. Restore Factory Defaults:
As a last resort, doing a full reset might clear any glitch that’s causing these background cycles.

From the control panel, press and hold the Cancel (X) + Wireless buttons together until the power light blinks — this should reset the printer to factory defaults.
(Note: You’ll need to reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi after this.)

Let us know how it goes — we’re here to help until it’s whisper-quiet again!

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Zoey. Thanks again for the reply. I believe I have to have Web Services enabled for HP Instant Ink subscription, so don't want to disable that unless this is the last resort along with resetting all default settings. I found an advanced setting for Microsoft Web Services which include Microsoft WS-Discovery, Microsoft-WSD Printer, and Microsoft WSD Scan which I could probably uncheck since I only use Apple devices in my household.  Thoughts on that?

Meanwhile, I confirmed Energy Saving Mode is set to "after 5 minutes" and Auto-Off after 15 minutes which are the lowest settings. I did not see a "Wake on LAN/network" option any place unless it is buried some place else?

I unchecked the Microsoft Web Services for Microsoft WS-Discovery, Microsoft-WSD Printer, and Microsoft WSD Scan and now the printer seems to go into Energy Saving Mode now. Before this, the color copy/printer light would continue to be lit and cycle through various colors and never dim.  This could be progress.  But not sure if those Microsoft Web Services are needed for HP Instant Ink subscription?

Hi Zoey.  Yeah, it seems to be better in that it goes into Standby mode, but it still wakes up periodically and runs the maintenance cycle or the lights turn on, but then goes back into Standby mode.  So it is mostly better. If it gets too annoying I may try the factory reset you mention.
