HP ENVY 6452e All-in-One Printer

Envy 6400e will not stay connected to Wi-Fi when a print job is sent from any application or website.  I can connect the printer to wifi but when I send a print job the printer immediately disconnects.  I have check for windows updates, new drivers and software updates.  All trouble shooting reports show the network, Wi-Fi, printer and computer are working perfectly.  I have turned the computer and printer off and on numerous times.    The printer does work.  when I press the "I" and wifi icon a report showing current status prints okay.

Hi @KT1980

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a frustrating issue with your HP Envy 6400e where it connects to Wi-Fi but disconnects when a print job is sent. Since the troubleshooting reports indicate that the network, Wi-Fi, printer, and computer are working fine, but the problem persists when printing, we can focus on a few specific areas to troubleshoot further. Here are some targeted steps to resolve this issue:

1. Ensure Printer and Computer are on the Same Network

  • Double-check that both your printer and computer (or mobile device) are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Sometimes, printers can connect to a different network band (e.g., 5 GHz vs 2.4 GHz), while the computer is on another.
  • If your router supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, ensure both the printer and computer are on the same band (2.4 GHz is generally more stable for printing).
  • You can verify the network settings by printing a network configuration report from the printer and matching the network information with what your computer is connected to.

2. Check for IP Address Conflicts

  • IP conflicts can cause issues with maintaining a stable connection. If another device on your network shares the same IP address as your printer, the printer may disconnect when a print job is sent.
  • Go to your router’s admin page and check if the printer is assigned a static IP. You can assign a static IP address to your printer to prevent conflicts.
  • Alternatively, you can reserve an IP address for your printer in the router’s DHCP settings so it always gets the same IP address.

3. Reset Network Settings on the Printer

  • Since the issue seems to be with maintaining a connection after sending print jobs, resetting the printer's network settings can help. This will clear any stored network information and allow the printer to reconnect from scratch.
    • On the HP Envy 6400e:
      1. Press the "Wireless" button on the printer's control panel.
      2. Select "Wireless Settings", then choose "Restore Network Defaults" or Reset Network Settings.
    • Once reset, try reconnecting the printer to your Wi-Fi network.

4. Check for Printer Firmware Update

  • Ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Even though you've checked for updates, there might be a specific fix for the issue you’re facing:
    • Visit the HP support website and search for your printer model.
    • Download and install any firmware updates available for your printer. If updates are available, install them via the HP Smart app or by following the instructions from HP’s website.

5. Reinstall Printer Drivers and Software

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
