HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an Envy 7640 All-in-One printer that keeps telling me there is a paper jam, but there is no visible paper jam anywhere.  This has happened 4 or 5 times since last summer.  I have reinstalled software more than once and followed all the suggestions to try and clear it.  I cannot find a "rear access door" on it.  Is there actually one, and how do I open it to look?  Nothing back there looks like a door and nothing opens.  I'm sick of this and ready to go buy a new printer that ISN'T AN HP PRODUCT!!

Hi @Beadfreak

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating this can be, especially with a recurring issue like that. The HP ENVY 7640 e-All-in-One printer does have a rear access door, though it might not be as obvious as you would expect.

Here’s how you can access it.

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source for safety.
  2. Locate the rear panel: The rear access door is actually a part of the printer's back panel. It may not look like a door right away, but it’s a section that you can remove.
  3. Open the rear panel: If you look at the back of the printer, you should see a section that can be pulled off. Gently grip it and pull it towards you. The access door is typically found in the middle or lower part of the back, depending on your model.
  4. Check for any paper: Once open, check for any paper that might be stuck in there, even if it’s not visible from the front.

If the issue persists even after clearing the jam, try these additional steps:

  • Power cycle the printer: Turn it off, unplug it for about 60 seconds, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Check the paper path again: Sometimes paper can be stuck further inside and isn't visible without taking off the rear access door.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
