Envy 7640 will not print black

Ok, I have seen similar problems on the forum, but no replies solve my problem. The printer will copy in black, print a test page started from the printer, but will not print anything in black from the computer. The printer generated test prints black and all colors just fine, but a request from the computer results in a blank page. Removing the black cartridge allows printing in black through the color cartridge. 

 

Any thoughts?

Hello @DougDuff,

 

Welcome to the HP Support Forums! 🙂 I see you are running into some problems with your HP Envy 7640. You are unable to print in black ink when printing from your Computer running the Windows 8 Operating system.

 

You are able to make black copies and test pages have black ink on them. This is called a composite black, so it pulls from all cartridges to produce a black like text.

 

I would like you to start troubleshooting here: Color or Black Ink Not Printing

Thank you Hevnlgh for your response. Never trust the home owner for trouble shooting facts! (First thing I learned then forgot!) Black cartridge was out!
