Hi @Sadie42,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Envy 7855 printer is printing black pages when you try to print a document directly from the printer, there are a few potential reasons and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Check Ink Levels: Ensure that your printer has sufficient ink levels. If the ink cartridges are low or empty, it can result in poor print quality or blank pages. Check the ink levels through the printer software or on the printer display panel.

Perform a Print Head Cleaning: Print heads can become clogged, leading to poor print quality. Most printers, including the HP Envy 7855, have a built-in function to clean the print heads. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to perform a print head cleaning.

Update Printer Firmware: Make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Check the HP support website for any available firmware updates for your specific printer model and follow the instructions to update the firmware.

Check Print Settings: When printing directly from the printer, ensure that the print settings are correct. Check for any settings that might be causing the issue, such as grayscale printing or draft mode. Make sure the printer is set to print in color if your document contains color.

Try a Different Document: Print a different document or a test page directly from the printer to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the problem is specific to a particular document or a more general printing problem.

Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in, turn it on, and try printing again. This can sometimes resolve temporary issues.

Check for Driver Updates: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed on your computer. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers for your printer model.

By following these troubleshooting steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue causing your HP Envy 7855 printer to print black pages when printing directly from the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden 4,

thanks for your reply. Why would the printer print correctly from computer as well as printing "Print Quality Diagnostic " page, but only prints BLACK PAGES" regardless of the different pages when I use only printer directly?

I tried to update the firmware ( I'm up to date on printer software) and used the HP support which led me to pages written in BULGARIAN ! Hopefully this was an HP site. I spent hours on the HP support and wasnt able to find solution.

I tried all the recommendations, and just purchased new black ink cartridge but am awaiting response re firmware update.
