HP Smart Tank 7300
Microsoft Windows 11

I ordered the HP Smart Tank 7300 from HSN in Sept 2024. It has just recently started printing "information Reports" repeatedly and it will print about 25 at a time off and on throughout the day sometimes every 5 minutes. I did a factory reset and uninstalled the HP Smart app. It is still printing information reports all by itself. There are no print jobs in any "print que" there is no menu option to turn off "print reports" This printer is not saving money because it is wasting paper.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Smart Tank 7300 Printing Information Reports Repeatedly!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It appears that your HP Smart Tank 7300 printer is experiencing an unusual issue by repeatedly printing information reports independently. Here are some steps to help resolve this problem:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting Guide

Check for Software Updates:

  • Ensure that the printer firmware is up to date.
  • Check for updates via the HP Smart app or the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Reset Network Settings:

  • Sometimes network issues can cause the printer to behave unpredictably.
  • Restore the network settings to their factory default:
    • Press the Wi-Fi button and the Cancel button simultaneously for 5 seconds.

Recheck Factory Reset:

  • Ensure you performed a complete factory reset:
    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Open the ink access door.
    3. Press and hold the Information button and the Cancel button for at least 3 seconds.
    4. Close the door and turn the printer back on.

Adjust Power Management Settings:

  • Disable Energy Save Mode or Auto-Off settings, as these sometimes cause issues with wireless printers.
  • Access these settings via the printer's control panel or EWS.

Review and Change Schedule Settings:

  • Verify the "Schedule On and Off" settings.
  • Turn off any schedules that might be causing the printer to initiate operations independently.

Check Embedded Web Server (EWS) Settings:

  • Access EWS to ensure no automated report printing commands have been set up.
  • Navigate to the EWS (see instructions below for accessing EWS if needed):
    1. Connect your device to the same network as the printer.
    2. Enter the printer's IP address into a web browser to reach the EWS.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

I contacted HP technical support and after about 5 days of following three different technicians instructions that included several factory and network resets, HP is going to replace the printer. I will be without a printer until they receive the faulty printer and send me a new one. Despite all of the troubleshooting, the printer kept printing "information reports" randomly and in large numbers. It also started printing "How to connect to to Wi-Fi" instructions repeatedly and randomly in addition to the printer information reports. There does not seem to be a fix and hopefully the new printer (exact same one) will not do this. We shall see.
