Hi @GunGun19,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Error 3 on the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28-M31 printers typically indicates a paper jam or a paper-related issue. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and resolve this error:
Steps to Resolve Error 3 on HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28-M31:
Clear Paper Jams
- Turn off the printer: Press the Power button to turn off the printer.
- Open the input tray: Pull out the input tray and remove any jammed paper from inside the printer.
- Open the output tray: Check if there's any jammed paper visible from the output tray and remove it carefully.
- Check other areas: Open any other doors or panels on the printer where jammed paper could be stuck and remove it.
- Close all doors and trays: Make sure all doors, trays, and panels are securely closed.
- Turn on the printer: Press the Power button to turn on the printer and see if the error message clears.
Reset the Printer
- Sometimes, resetting the printer can resolve temporary issues.
- Turn off the printer: Press the Power button to turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord: Disconnect the power cord from the printer and wait for about 30 seconds.
- Plug in the power cord: Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer: Press the Power button to turn on the printer and check if the error is resolved.
Check Paper Loading and Condition
- Ensure that the paper being used is within the supported specifications for the printer.
- Adjust the paper guides in the input tray to fit the paper size snugly.
- Fan the paper stack before loading it to prevent sheets from sticking together.
Inspect Paper Path
- Inspect the entire paper path for any obstructions, debris, or torn pieces of paper that may be causing the error.
- Use a flashlight to check inside the printer for any small pieces of paper that may be difficult to see.
Check for Updates
- Ensure that the printer has the latest firmware installed. Firmware updates can sometimes resolve issues with paper handling and error messages.
- Visit the HP Support website, enter your printer model (LaserJet Pro MFP M28-M31), and download any available firmware updates.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
