Hi there,

since the last autmatic installed firmware upgrade (version 20221010) my printer does not work anymore. It tries to start, then it gets stuck with a 49 Service error and starts again. I can't do any reset, because the printer doesn't leave the state of initalisation until the error occurs.

What can I do to make the printer work again?

I hope HP picks up on this issue. More and more people are bricking their printers. That can't be a good thing.

Yeah, there's at least a dozen or more folks who have already bricked their M281 printers. HP should really be looking into this.

The only fix I know of at the moment is to completely replace the formatter board. I'm also  wondering if the USB header on the formatter board would allow a flash from USB. I don't know enough about this SBC to know what to do.

Okay. Looks like HP destroyed the printer with a not working firmware update. So if they don't find an accetable solution soon, I'll call my adcovat to make HP pay me a new printer.  There is a big event in 4 weeks, where I need a working printer. They broke it, so they have to pay a new one or repair the old.
