HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M181fw

Hello,

the "59.C0 error" appears every now and then, allowing me to print only a few pages at a time.

I have found that I may have to change a small motor inside the printer but I can't find the model of that motor.

I also would like to know if there is a tutorial to help me change it.

I live on a small island and don't have any repair shop here...

thank you in advance

best regards

Camille

Hi @K100066,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "59.C0 error" on the HP LaserJet MFP M181fw indicates a problem with the DC (direct current) motor, which is responsible for driving the paper feed mechanisms and other internal components. This error often suggests that the motor is malfunctioning or that there is an issue with the motor's control circuitry.

Troubleshooting Steps and Repair Guide

1. Understanding the Error

  • Error Code 59.C0: This code specifically points to issues with the DC motor. It might be caused by a mechanical jam, a failure of the motor itself, or a problem with the motor's control board.

2. Basic Troubleshooting

Turn Off and Restart the Printer:

  • Power off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for at least 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. Sometimes, a reset can clear temporary errors.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open all accessible doors and check for any paper jams or obstructions in the paper path. Clear any jams you find.

Inspect Internal Components:

  • Check for any loose or disconnected cables, especially around the motor area. Ensure all connections are secure.

3. Replacing the DC Motor

If you determine that the DC motor needs replacement, follow these steps:

Obtain the Replacement Motor:

  • The specific motor model might not be listed in the printer's documentation. Typically, the motor is part of the printer’s internal mechanism, and you might need to contact HP support or an authorized parts supplier for the exact replacement part.

Prepare for Replacement:

  • Make sure you have the necessary tools, such as screwdrivers and possibly tweezers. Keep track of screws and components as you disassemble the printer.

Disassemble the Printer:

  1. Turn Off the Printer: Ensure the printer is turned off and unplugged.
  2. Open the Printer: Open all relevant covers and trays to gain access to the internal components.
  3. Locate the DC Motor: Consult the service manual (if available) to identify the motor's location. The motor is typically located near the paper feed or the fuser assembly.
  4. Remove the Old Motor: Disconnect any cables attached to the motor, and remove any screws or clips holding it in place. Carefully remove the motor from its mount.

Install the New Motor:

  1. Position the New Motor: Place the new motor in the same position as the old one.
  2. Secure the Motor: Attach any screws or clips and reconnect the cables.
  3. Reassemble the Printer: Close all covers and trays.

Test the Printer:

  • Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and perform a test print to ensure that the error is resolved.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
