HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw Color Printer
macOS 10.15 Catalina

I have used this printer without issues for many years on the same exact setup, but all of a sudden it has developed this issue. When I print the dialog box shows that it has successfully connected to the printer, and the printer lights indicate the incoming page. Then the printer display indicates printing for a few seconds, immediately switching to Error 79. If left alone the display will go back to normal/Ready.

I have reset the printer (Off/On) many times, reset my router, deleted and reintroduced the printer from the Mac Print Center, tried using HP Easy Start. Nothing works -- can no longer print.

Please help!

@1Gregory, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Error 79 on HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw Color Printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Error 79 is a common issue that typically relates to the firmware or issues with print jobs sent to the HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw printer. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and resolve the Error 79:

Steps to Resolve Error 79:

1. Power Cycle the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer completely.
  • Unplug the power cable and wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug the power cable back in and turn on the printer.

2. Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer’s firmware is up to date. Firmware updates can fix bugs and improve performance.
  • Visit the HP Support site and download the latest firmware specific to your printer model.
  • Follow the instructions to install the firmware update.

3. Clear Print Jobs:

  • Cancel all print jobs from your computer before restarting the printer.
  • If you're connected over a network, ensure no other devices are sending print jobs to the printer.

4. Print from Another Application:

  • Sometimes there is a problem with the specific document being printed. Try printing a different document from another application to see if the issue persists.

5. Check for Software Conflicts:

  • Ensure that no other device drivers, applications, or software may be conflicting with the printer.
  • Uninstall any recently installed software that might be causing the issue.

6. Reinstall Printer Drivers:

  • Remove the printer from your system preferences.
  • Visit HP’s official site to download and install the latest driver compatible with macOS 10.15 Catalina.

7. Check Network Connection:

  • Verify your network settings and ensure your printer is properly connected to the network.
  • Try connecting the printer directly to your computer using a USB cable to see if the issue persists.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Thanks for your help! I'm all set now. Turns out there was an issue with a particular file that I was trying to print -- a receipt from a big box store. Strangely, the perfect looking PDF I downloaded wouldn't print, and neither would it print using the "Print" option on the website. Once I tried another doc the printer was working. Odd.

Anyhow, thanks again!
