I tried accessing the HP FTP but I can't browse directories nor do I know what the last firmware was named. Very frustrating.

I am curious if anyone here has been able to use the older firmware update utility that is posted to downgrade the firmware and if that resolved the issue? A note that you might have to change a setting in the embedded web server to enable firmware downgrades.

How do we obtain the older firmware version?

I cannot find the older firmware update utility you are referring to, please share.

There is no setting in the EWS to modify to allow downgrades. Plus - there is no known place to access previous versions of the firmware.

BRICKED!

@H411 I added that as a caution as it may or may not be necessary. I typically deal with Laserjet PRO and larger machines so not 100% sure of what appears in the EWS on basic consumer models. It is entirely possible you can downgrade without having to make any changes.

Just tried using the previous firmware updater and it's a no-go. Printer is still on the faulty firmware.

HP Recommended

@Repairatrooper  - that firmware is for the SDW model which is the model with the automatic document feeder.

I should also add - that running the old firmware executable file that @repairatrooper listed - totally bricked the machine even worse. Now it's 100% inaccessible via the EWS. It has code "49" on the LCD panel now.

Can HP send me a new printer now please?
