Error Message 79 on Laser Jet Printer M234dwe. I've already tried powering down the printer and the router. I also tried chatting with HP via Messenger....no response from an agent after 30 minutes waiting. Also, my IMAC will not connect to download new firmware.

Hi @JimMcC3,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you've tried some troubleshooting steps already. Error Message 79 on a LaserJet printer typically indicates a firmware issue. Since you mentioned that your iMac is having trouble connecting to download new firmware, it could be a network-related problem.
Here are a few more steps you can try.
- Update Firmware Manually: If your iMac is having trouble connecting to download new firmware, you can try downloading the firmware update on a different device, like a Windows PC or a laptop, and then transfer it to your iMac using a USB drive. Once you have the firmware file, you can manually update the printer's firmware following the instructions provided by HP.
- Reset Printer: Sometimes, a simple reset can resolve firmware-related issues. Try performing a cold reset on your printer by unplugging it from the power source, waiting for a few minutes, and then plugging it back in.
- Check Network Settings: Ensure that your printer is connected to the same network as your iMac and that both devices have a stable internet connection. You can try restarting your router or connecting your printer to a different network to see if that resolves the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

To download the firmware, you’d need to go to the HP Support site (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01711356) and download the latest firmware for your particular computer to the MAC or Windows device associated with the printer you are having the issue with. If you are using a WIFI printer, make sure that the device you downloaded the firmware onto is connected to the same WIFI network as the printer. After you download the firmware file, click on it and it should open and attempt to locate your printer and install
the new firmware. Hope this helps.

It worked for me. I’m sorry you’re still having issues. Hopefully an HP employee will reply to you on this thread. Look at Alden’s (HP employee) reply to me in this thread. Maybe one of their suggestions will help you.

when I restarted the router, printer printed a page.
Over there it says:
Wireless: Status: Not connected
Wi-Fi Direct: Status: Enabled
Seems laptop cannot connect to printer.
When I press the Wireless button on printer, it doesn't work.
How do that printer has connected to my laptop?

problem fixed by:
removing toner.
turn off printer for 30 sec
turn on
put the toner back
& fixed.
there is a solution to prevent this problem in future.
