HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 All-in-One Printer
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I have OFFICEJET 9015.  A YEAR AND A HALF OLD.  IT IS TOTALLY NONRESPONSIVE.  Blue screen error code D81AE404.

I have tried all suggested solutions on this site,  Virtual Assisstantm and Got through to live agent on the phone.  After explaining problem she said to dispose of computer, it cannot be repaired.  Suggested buying another one!?

This is just a home computer used infrequently.  Warranty expired April 7, 2021.

Carriage is stuck on one side of the computer.  Does not move, ink cartridges unaccessible.

Cannot turn it off.  Just unplug and plug in.  Nothing happens except for the return of the blue screen error message.  No sound from the printer, no movement, no resetting . Nothing

So I guess I will go buy a Brother or Lexmark.

Very unhappy with HP.

Hi @michaelgray,

I'd like to help!

I understand you are receiving a "D81AE404" error on the printer screen.

We can perform a factory defaults on the printer to resolve the issue

Try the below suggestions -

Reset the product

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Wait at least 60 seconds.

Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

Reconnect the power cord to the printer.

Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

To restore the printer to the original factory defaults

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch ( Setup ).

2. Touch Printer Maintenance.

3. Touch Restore.

4. Touch Restore Factory Defaults. A message appears stating that the factory defaults will be restored.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

what worked for me with my Pro 9018.

as suggested by Jay, I  unplugged and plugged after ~60 secs, but what worked for me after I restarted the printer are these steps:

- I open the hood to access the cartridges

- manually moved to the center of the printer (at the 1st attempt I got the same error code, 2nd attempt I made sure I do this step before the error code pops up)

- removed the entire case (you will get an error message saying no printer head found)

- I cleaned the printer head which is below the case with a paper tissue.

- pushed back the case until tightly secured

- printer did an alignment check and followed the simple instruction. it worked!

the suggestion message from the printer screen was I should always shut down the printer using the power button on the printer. (which I do, I am not sure why!). anyways I thought I will put this message if it helps anyone.
