HP officejet 3831

Error code comes up every time I turn the printer back on.

Ive attempted to reset using the method HP advises. unplug when on, 60 seconds unpluged etc many times.

Ive even taken out the print cartridges and put them back in. nothing.

I believe the printer is a dead parrot. Rather annoying.

Thanks for your time.

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

I appreciate all your efforts and expertise diagnosing this issue

Let's start with a printer reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed

Then update the Firmware from this Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

If the issue persists please follow the instructions in Steps 4 - 6 from this Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03253201

Keep me posted how it goes

Thank you and have a great weekend 😊

Thanks for the reply, yes I attempted this advice with no luck at least three or four times. Printer just kept coming back on with the error message. I’d ordered off amazon so I’ve now received a replacement which seems to be working fine but thanks for attempting to help anyway.

have a good day. Matt.

Please remove this as a solved issue - it clearly isn't. The ops issue was resolved by getting a replacement printer. I have the same error code and have spent days now trying to resolve it with HP - still no further forward.

Unfortunately it seems like impossible to fix error. While it was nice to get people writing back attempting to help I’d already found the info given and had tried many different times.

seem impossible to get the printer to do a hard reset.

hopefully you’ll be able to get a replacement, for me it’s not the first time I’ve received a printer that didn’t work from the start or just stops working. Moving parts, cheap and what I would consider and over complicated way the printer and cartridges work together it’s just modern inkjet printers for you..

I personally wouldn’t advise you wasting your time with any more fixes and just go straight to your consumer rights.

all the best. 🙂

Hi Matmus, Thanks for your comment. Yes, seems like HP most likely have been aware of this unsolvable issue for some time, but have continued to ship faulty units. Dreadful customer service. I've shared some feedback on their twitter stream. Hopefully they cough for a replacement printer or full refund - think this is likely to be my first and last HP purchase.
