I am trying to replace my Magenta ink cartridge and keep getting an error that it is an older generation cartridge. The printer has already been functioning on the yellow and Cyan that came from the same box so how can only the Magenta be old? I have not changed printers, it is the same ink we've always purchased and the new box we just got a few weeks ago has the exact same numbers on it. The only difference is the expiration date. If that is the issue, why am I being penalized because I don't print that often. If part of a box works, the whole box should work. Ink is too expensive to have to keep replacing cartridges that haven't even been used.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

I also had the same problem this morning and am using the 2nd of the exact same XL pack of HP cartridges.  The printer will not work because of this.  HOW can we by pass this to get the printers working?  What can we do?

Hello, can you send the information on how to make older cartridges work?  I have three black ink cartridges that were new in the box (purchased about a year ago) that are giving me the error they are older and do not work with printer.

I am having the same issue with all 4 brand new authentic ink cartridges. I have tried two brand new packages and neither are being recognized by the printer, stating older generation ink cartridge. How do we clear this and get them to be recognized by the printer. This is extremely irritating when you have important paperwork needing to be taken care of.

They asked for my information but I haven't heard anything back. Has anyone found a solution for this? I don't want to waste more money on ink if it's just going to do the same thing.

Has any solution been found for this? I'm not getting any response back to my messages.

I have a 6975.  I have the same message.  I'll bet it is a software update problem.  I bought the ink from Costco (902XL) long after I bought the printer.  The same batch of ink cartridge I bought did not show the same problem.  Now, suddenly it started saying older generation ink cartridge.
