Operating System: Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

On replacing the Black cartridge (#62), got Error Message:

"Remove and replace the indicated ink cartridge, making sure it is correctly installed, and then click OK.  If this message continues to appear, replace the indicated cartridge."

Repeated attempts to reinstall the new cartridge fail to resolve the problem. Inserting the old empty cartridge worked. Installing a different new cartridge worked. I labeled the first new cartridge bad with intent to return it to the store.

Shortly afterwards, I had to replace the color carrtridge and am experiencing the same problem.  Put in the old cartridge and it "worked" (got rid of the error message.)  Haven't tried a second replacement color cartridge.  Reluctant to keep buying cartridges for a printer that may not be reparable.

Cartridges are HP cartridges purchased in store from Staples.  Presumably legit.
