HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-in-One Printer

Hello! For a while now I have been getting error code 0x6100004a. I have tried powering down and unplugging the unit and waiting several minutes. When it reboots it first says “remove any jammed paper “ then after I hit ok it will  set the error. I don’t have any paper jams and I have taken the printer apart to inspect. All is ok. Is it time to replace this printer? Thanks in advance.

Hi @GL2205,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are getting an error'0x6100004a' on your Officejet Pro 6968 printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Please make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

Remove all the ink cartridges and then try to perform a Hard reset on the printer.

* With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

* Remove USB cable, if present.

* Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

* Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

* Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

* Now insert the ink cartridges and then try to print a test document and check if it works.

  1. Clear jammed paper from the printer
  2. Make sure the carriage can move freely
  3. Make sure the ink cartridges are inserted correctly

Thank you for the response. I tried what you suggested and the concern is still present. The first message is about paper jam. I did notice that I am not able to slide the ink cartridges over to get them out of their slots unless I manually wind the gears inside then it does allow the ink to move. It acts like it is “out of sync” and doesn’t know where it’s at.  When it try’s to move the ink it gets bound up until I manually turn it again. Almost like it got bound up and the belt slipped and now it’s out of time? I do not see any paper jam though.
