This printer keeps showing error code 0xb820acc4 after it's been sitting for a while.  I can't find anything on this code.  I'm updating the firmware as we speak and I will update the driver so hopefully that will resolve the issue.  However, if anyone can tell me what that error code is, I'd appreciate the feedback.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you Echo. I know how to clear the error.  However, I was asking if anyone knew what the error code meant.  What is this particular error code?  What is the fault causing this error code?

Hi Echo_Lake, please look through the number of people who have posted the same error messages on their printers all around the same time. I have followed your suggestions for fix but this only briefly resolved and the error keeps coming back. Rather coincidental that so many people are having the same issue, can someone please look into this properly as I suspect that an update has caused this

As I mentioned earlier, this error code 0xb820acc4 does not describe the cause of an error. However, updating the latest printer firmware might rectify the unknown error. Click here: Update the firmware on an HP printer

Updating the firmware does not fix this, in fact it is more likely that it was a software update that caused it! You only need to look at the sheer volume of people who have all started to get the same errors at the same time. The only way to fix this is to restore factory defaults, but we have to hope that the next software update doesn’t see the same errors return.

This needs to be investigated properly by HP and the issue resolved. I work it IT (have worked for Compaq and HP in the past), if everyone started having issues at the same time this would be investigated and if the issues started shortly after an automatic software update it’s pretty obvious what the cause was. We would then work on a fix and force through an update ASAP, and in the meantime keep those who had reported issues ip to date of progress.

The fact that if we are lucky enough to get a reply from you it is just the classic re-boot instructions, which does not fix, or update the firmware, which also does not fix.

Not good enough from HP and would certainly make me think twice about purchasing another HP printer.

Oh I used to

That article you suggest we refer to has to be a joke right. Reset your printer and if that doesn’t work service or replace it?

is that what this has come to now, HP release a software update that breaks printers worldwide and the recommended fix is to sent it to landfill and buy a new one? Nice to see HP helping to save the environment, make printers that should last for years error after 1 year so we have to buy another.
