OfficeJet Pro 6968
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I ran out of black ink the other day, so naturally I went and bought a new, genuine HP 902XL black ink cartridge for my OfficeJet Pro 6968. I replaced the old cartridge with the new one and also let the printer update...no black ink on my prints, just blank sheets. I went back and bought a second new cartridge thinking the first new one was just faulty and to my surprise the second new one did not worth either...still just spitting out blank sheets. I have tried everything online and the HP forum for suggested "fixes" to this issue with no luck. I have even tried the HP Smart Quality Tools for cleaning and that didn't even help...

I am now extremely frustrated as I have spent over $80 on new ink cartridges and have never ran into issues with this printer until I let it update...did HP add something to an update telling the print head to just quit working on older printers? I am baffled. I want answers. Especially since my warranty is up which means if this issue can not be resolved then I will be in the hole for brand new printer. HP, I WANT ANSWERS ASAP.

Kindly focus on step-8 and step-9 .

If the issue still persists, its time to get the printer serviced. You may contact HP Tech Support @ https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp

Hi Jabzi,

I have tried and followed all of the support steps about 3 different times now with no luck.

After peering into the printer with a flashlight, I can see in the right side corner (print head normally rests) where black ink has leaked out along with M, C, Y inks as well.

I am now thinking this is a hardware defect or failure...after approx. 2 years 4 months of usage. If this is the case, what can HP offer to fix or replace it? I understand the "Manufacturer Warranty" has since expired so it technically has no coverage. Would purchasing an extended warranty be possible still and if so, would it cover having my printer serviced and fixed regardless of the failure happening between expired and new warranty coverage?

Hello,

Based on your findings i  too conclude its hardware failure.

Purchasing of Extended Warranty is not possible now.

The only option is to go for a new printer.

I'd sugges you to call HP Tech Support and check if there is an option for getting a printer UPGRADE. Where you may get a different printer model etc.
