RAHM,

PLEASE PLEASE Post the fix.  I am willing to try it right now.

My printer will also crash every 3 to 5 min and there is no way to fix except to unplug and re plug.

BTW,  How did you get this fix?  Everybody else has been trying for almost a year!

I need this fix before i throw this printer off the balcony and smash it into a million pieces!!

Thanks,

Lance

Hi Lance

How can I not respond to an appeal like that!

It's been almost 24 hours since my last BSOD, and both my wife and I have printed some things successfully.  So far all is well, and the printer is behaving as it used to, and should.   The process is, as usual with HP, buried fairly deep and does not seem to be documented by them at all  -  so here are the steps required:-

  1. Wake up the touchscreen
  2. Touch the little gearwheel on the dark-grey band:  a screen with ‘Jobs/Info‘ appears.
  3. Touch the little gearwheel again, this time on the light-blue-grey band
  4. A screen called Setup will appear
  5. Scroll down to Printer Maintenance near the bottom of the list of options and touch it
  6. Scroll down to Restore and touch it
  7. Touch Restore Factory Defaults
  8. Touch Continue
  9. Wait  . . .  it may well take two or three minutes  . . .
  10. When printer restarts touch WiFi symbol and reconnect to your router (if you have a WPS button on your router go and hold it for four seconds until the (orangey) light flashes, and the printer will reconnect automatically)
  11. Wait  . . .  and print  . . .

Let me know how you get on.

Regards,

Bob

This worked perfectly for me.  It was actually suggested to me by the second HP customer care rep. with whom I talked, after trying many other things.  But I did not know if it had worked since my screen was up and running when I called, after having unplugged and replugged AGAIN before I called.  The frustrating thing was that she said they had no record of this issue ever happening before, and that the error message displayed could not be traced to any particular problem.  She said they had no way of knowing what the error message indicated was the problem.  I asked to talk to a supervisor about that and in talking with him, he told me he knew exactly what that code meant - it meant that there was a hardware issue that could not be corrected so the unit would need to be replaced. If it was under warranty (it was not) they would replace.  If not, I should simply replace it. He was very clear that the error code meant a hardware issue, related to the printer carriage and the unit would not work again and should be replaced.  Very, very happy to have it up and running again (now 18 hours), grateful for one HP staff member who did suggest "Restore Factory Defaults" and walked me through how to do that, and frustrated with the whole HP system that had no clue as to what was really going wrong.

Worked so far! Had to reload the printer cartridges and reset the webservices as well.

Well I’ll be damned!!!  The fix appears to have worked!  After 10 hours the printer is still up and running!

thank you for the directions.  Hard to understand why HP couldn’t tell us this!

thank you again Bob!!

Hello again, Lance

Well, it's now a month since I 'fixed' it, and my printer has not failed or done the BSOD even once.   Joy.

I've even decided to keep my printer and not chuck it out and buy another Epson after all !

I think we can take it that this problem is solved, properly at last, and not just temporarily postponed until its next recurrence by pulling the plug.

For anyone joining the thread now, refer to my detailed post of 17th August for instructions on how to restore your happiness.

Bob
