Hi I have an Envy 5020 that suddenly failed last night. It has error code OXB88188B58 and the printer won't boot up.

It will also not turn off at the on off button and if I do a hard reset I just get the boot up screen with the progress / task bar making its way to the RH side of the screen and then it freezes with just two of the status dots under the task bar illuminated.

There are no function icons illuminated around the screen.

Can anyone help please

Hi @Duds1,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're encountering a issue with your HP Envy 5020 printer. The error code OXB8188B58 indicates a hardware problem, often associated with internal components or firmware issues.

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove the USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

Update the printer firmware

  • Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your product
  • Click here to know different methods of updating the printer firmware.

Check for Physical Obstructions: Make sure there are no paper jams or other physical obstructions inside the printer that could be causing the issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the reply Gaya 1239 its much appreciated.

Unfortunately that solution didn't work,  The printer will not reboot and I cannot communicate with it.

Thanks for the suggestion but I guess I will have to obtain another printer as I need it for work.
