HP ENVY 5020 All-in-One Printer

Error code OX4EB8021 is flashing on the screen on switch on.  What does this mean and how can it be resolved.

I've tried the usual switching on and off.  It's connecting to the network but now allowing printing.

Hi @1948EP,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the error code OXC4EB8021 on your HP ENVY 5020 All-in-One Printer typically indicates a firmware or hardware issue. This could involve the printer's internal system or communication between components. Below are steps to troubleshoot and resolve this error:

1. Power Reset the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
  2. Disconnect the power cord and unplug the printer from the wall outlet.
  3. Wait for about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Plug the power cord back in and reconnect the printer to the outlet.
  5. Turn the printer back on and check if the error persists.

2. Check for Paper or Hardware Obstructions

  • Open the printer's access door and check for any paper jams or obstructions.
  • Inspect the print carriage for movement:
    • Turn the printer off.
    • Manually move the printhead to see if it's stuck or obstructed.
  • Remove and reseat the ink cartridges.

3. Update the Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

If the printer connects to your network, update the firmware:

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your device or go to HP Support online.
  2. Check for and install any firmware updates for your printer mode

4. Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

This can clear firmware-related issues:

  1. On the printer screen, navigate to Setup (gear icon).
  2. Look for Printer Maintenance or Reset Settings.
  3. Choose Restore Factory Defaults and confirm.

5. Reconnect to the Network

Sometimes, the error relates to connectivity:

  1. Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network using the control panel.
  2. Verify that the printer shows Connected or similar.

6. Perform a Semi-Full Reset (if available)

This resets deeper system settings:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Hold down Cancel + Resume (or Cancel + Power) for 10 seconds.
  3. Release the buttons and allow the printer to restart.
