I have unplugged and plugged in multiple times and get a new error code each time.  Only a series of letters/numbers, no description.  I tried reinstalling software but computer is not recognizing the printer as connected (via USB) so I cannot.  What do these error codes mean and how do I clear?

OXB0655D30A, OXB065D3C2, OXB065D2FE, OXB3BFB5BC (these might not be right the digits are squished together and hard to read).  There have been more, I stopped writing them down.

Hi @dwilliamson1,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the error codes you're seeing on your HP Officejet 4635 e-All-in-One Printer, such as OXB0655D30A, OXB065D3C2, and similar, are likely hexadecimal error codes indicating internal hardware or firmware issues. These codes are not user-friendly and typically don't provide much detail without specific HP diagnostic tools.

Here are steps you can take to try resolving the issue:

1. Perform a Full Printer Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  2. Wait 2-3 minutes to allow residual charge to dissipate.
  3. Press and hold the Power button on the printer for 30 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cord directly to the wall outlet (not through a power strip) and the printer.
  5. Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.

2. Check for Hardware Issues

  • Inspect the cartridges: Remove the ink cartridges and inspect them for any visible damage, leaks, or obstructions. Clean the electrical contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Check for jams: Open the printer and inspect for any paper jams, small debris, or obstructions that could trigger errors.

3. Update the Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

Since the printer is not recognized via USB, try the following:

  • Use another computer or device with wireless capabilities to connect to the printer and update the firmware. You can access HP's firmware update tool on their support website.
  • If wireless is unavailable, ensure the printer is in Setup Mode to reconnect to WiFi:
    1. On the printer's control panel, go to Network Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.
    2. Follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect the printer to your WiFi network.

4. Reinstall the Printer Software

If the printer isn’t recognized on USB, try these:

  • Switch USB ports: Use a different USB port on your computer.
  • Try a new USB cable: A faulty cable can prevent proper communication.
  • Download the latest software and drivers from the HP support website. Follow the instructions for a clean installation.

5. Factory Reset

Perform a reset to restore the printer to its default settings:

  1. On the printer, access the Settings menu.
  2. Navigate to Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
  3. Confirm the reset and allow the printer to restart.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
