Hi @BarneyEagle,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code "Hp" displayed on an HP LaserJet MFP M140we printer with the "!" flashing typically indicates a problem with the printer that needs attention. This error message could be due to various issues, and it's essential to troubleshoot to identify and resolve the problem. Here are some steps you can follow to diagnose and potentially fix the issue.

Check for Paper Jams: Open all the printer's access doors and check for any paper jams. Even a small scrap of paper can trigger an error. Carefully remove any paper stuck inside the printer.

Inspect Toner Cartridge: Ensure that the toner cartridge is correctly installed. Remove it and reseat it to make sure it's properly seated in its place.

Reset the Printer: Power off the printer, wait for a few seconds, and then power it back on. This can often resolve minor issues.

Firmware Update: Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer on the HP website. Sometimes, updating the firmware can fix known issues.

Check for Hardware Issues: If the problem persists, there might be a hardware issue with the printer. Check for any visible damage or loose connections. If you're comfortable doing so, you can also try removing and reseating internal components like the toner cartridge, paper trays, and memory modules.

Clear Error Logs: Access the printer's control panel and navigate to the error log or event log. Clear any error messages and see if new ones appear immediately after.

Check for Software Conflicts: Ensure that the printer driver on your computer is up to date and compatible with your printer model. Sometimes, conflicts between the printer driver and software applications can trigger errors.

Remember that the exact steps to perform these actions may vary slightly depending on the printer model and firmware version. Refer to your printer's manual or HP's official support resources for detailed instructions specific to your printer model.

If the error code continues to appear after troubleshooting, it may indicate a more serious hardware issue,

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I spoke to a HP representative who checked the printer for me. It turns out that “HP” is the error code for out of toner. All sorted now, and thanks for your reply.
