@DaleinaZ, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If you receive an error message indicating "Problem with printer or printer system," it typically points to a general issue that might need a thorough troubleshooting process. Here are some steps to help resolve this error for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8020 printer:
1. Reset the Printer
Resetting the printer can resolve many system errors.
- With the printer turned on , disconnect the power cord from the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the power source.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to a wall outlet and to the printer.
- Turn on the printer to complete the reset.
HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.
2. Check for Paper Jams
Paper jams can trigger system errors:
- Open the front door, and then lift the ink cartridge access door.
- Wait until the carriage stops moving.
- With the printer turned on , disconnect the power cord to avoid injuries.
- Move the carriage to the far left and far right and remove any jammed or torn pieces of paper.
- Reconnect the power cord, and then turn on the printer.
3. Clean the Paper Feed Rollers
Dust and debris can affect the paper feed mechanism, causing errors.
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
- Open the front door and lift the ink cartridge access door.
- Lightly dampen a lint-free cloth with distilled or filtered water, and gently clean the rollers.
- Allow the rollers to dry completely (approximately 10 minutes).
- Reconnect the power cord and turn on your printer.
4. Service the Printer
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, you may need to service your HP product.
- To schedule a product repair or replacement, go to Contact HP Customer Support.
- To confirm your warranty status, go to HP Product Warranty Check. Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty products.
