HP ENVY 5542 All-in-One Printer

I am trying to print document from my iPad but only get an error message that there is no photo paper in printer.  I have never printed a photo on this printer.  I can print from my iPhone but not iPad

1. Check Print Settings on the iPad:

  • When you select "Print" from an app on your iPad, make sure the printer settings are set to print as a document rather than a photo.
  • After selecting the printer, look for options such as Paper Size or Media Type. Ensure it's set to "Plain Paper" instead of "Photo Paper."

2. Restart Devices:

  • Restart both your iPad and the HP ENVY 5542 printer. Sometimes, a simple restart can reset any incorrect settings or temporary glitches.
  • After restarting, try printing the document again.

3. Update iOS and Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure that your iPad is running the latest version of iOS. Sometimes software updates include fixes for such issues.
  • Check if there's a firmware update available for your HP ENVY 5542. You can do this via the HP Smart app or HP's website.

4. Reset Print Settings on the iPad:

  • Go to Settings > General > Reset on your iPad and select Reset Network Settings. This will clear any saved printer settings and networks, allowing you to set up the printer connection fresh.
  • Reconnect to the printer and try printing again.

5. Try Printing from a Different App:

  • If you're printing from a specific app on your iPad, try printing the document from a different app, like Notes or Files, to see if the issue persists.

Please find the remaining steps below. 

 

6. Reinstall the Printer on the iPad:

  • Delete the printer from your iPad by going to Settings > Printers & Scanners (or similar), then tap on your printer and choose "Forget this Printer."
  • Re-add the printer by going to Settings > Printers & Scanners, then tap "Add Printer" and select your HP ENVY 5542 from the list.

7. AirPrint Specifics:

  • Ensure that the document you are trying to print is using AirPrint and not being interpreted as an image or photo. AirPrint should automatically detect the correct settings for your document.

8. Try Printing from Another iOS Device:

  • If the issue persists only on your iPad, but not on other devices like your iPhone, consider backing up your iPad and performing a factory reset, as there might be a deeper iOS-related issue.

 

If after trying these steps you still encounter the issue, it may be worth exploring whether the specific document type or app you're using is affecting the print settings.
