I cannot print as my printer has started displayiong the message "One or more cartridges appears to be damaged"

I am using good quality refilled carridges (non HP) that have worked for me for for teh opast few years.

I have tried svereal different cartidges but the error message will not go away.

I've tried turninhg the printer on/off, I've checked that I have latest drivers.

I have read that HP software(firmware?) was updated to ensure the printer only works with their cartridges. Is there a version of software that I can run that will allow me to use non-HP cartridges?

Thanks very much.

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are getting cartridge error.

  • Did you clean the carriage in the printer, the place where you insert the cartridge?

If not, try cleaning the carriage on the printer.

  1. Lightly moisten another foam-rubber swab or lint-free cloth with distilled water, and then squeeze any excess water from it.

  2. Use the swab or cloth to clean the electrical contacts in the carriage, located inside the product.

Tried that but still doesn't work. Tried with 3 different brand new refilled cartridges - all get same error. Tried with genuine HP cartridge works first time!
