Microsoft Windows 11

Installed new generic black ink cartridge and printed several pages.  Last night tried to print membership certificates, one printed fine and then received the error message not to use continuous feed ink.  How do I clear out this message?

It looks like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8740 is rejecting the generic cartridge. Here’s what you can try:

 

1. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and restart.

 

2. Clean Cartridge Contacts

  • Remove the black cartridge and wipe the metal contacts with a lint-free cloth.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly.

 

3. Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes. Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.
