Hi there. I haven’t been able to print since installing new ink cartridges. They’re definitely installed correctly but the same error message keeps coming up that they need to be reinstalled. Tried that multiple times and have also tried resetting the printer by unplugging it.
Is this faulty cartridges or the actual printer?

@SW1186, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
To assist you better, are you using HP ink cartridges?
Which of the ink cartridge is indicated in the error?
This printer supports printing in single-cartridge mode, install one ink cartridge at a time and check for the error.
Kindly perform the steps mentioned in this document - HP Printer Does not Print and Error Indicates Faulty Ink Cartridge
Make sure the ink cartridges are properly placed. You may refer to - Replacing the Ink Cartridges
If the issue persists, I'm afraid this could be a hardware issue. Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the replacement options.
You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

I had the same problem with a new genuine HP 304XL cartridge that was not recognized by the printer. I noticed that the strip with the metal/copper contacts on the backside was not exactly in the middle of the cartridge, maybe offset by 0.5mm (0.02″). I attached a small piece of cardboard to the side of the cartridge to get it better aligned with the contacts of the printer. Installing the cartridge with the piece of cardboard was not a problem.
My HP printer now recognizes the genuine HP cartridge !!
