Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I recommend you root uninstall the printer and then reinstall it and check if it helps.
Here is how it is done.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the PC
14.) Download and install the printer software from the below link.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Hello "The Fossette". I followed all suggested steps and I continue to receive the same error message:
All other features work. I can scan to my laptop; copy and print (no home phone / land line so no fax capability). I can also use HP ePrint to print from my Android phone to the printer.
Looking for assistance as to why I suddenly cannot print from my Samsung laptop. It just suddenly stopped printing several days ago with the above error every time I try and print from laptop. I need a solution that will work! Thank you!

Are you facing issue printing only that PDF document?
Did you try printing a word or any other document?
Meanwhile, I recommend you run the HP Print And Scan Doctor and check if it helps.
Please download and run the HP Print And Scan Doctor from this Link: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/HPPSdr.exe
Run PSDR v5.0.2
Once the PSDR detects the Printer, it will show up the IP address and Software Status.
Select the correct Printer and click on Next.
PSDR will check if the Printer is on the Network and communication between the PC and the Printer. Once the connection check is done, click on Fix Printing
Once PSDR goes through all checks and automatic fixes, click on Print a test page.
Regardless if PSDR printed the test page or not, click on “NO PRINT”
PSDR will then notify you that there is an update available, click on continue, and PSDR will apply the patch and ask for a reboot.
Post restart the PSDR will run automatically to check for more issue. If no issue found close PSDR.

I have tried to print PDF, Word, Excel and Email from my laptop and all go to error state every single time.
My wife has an HP Elitebook laptop and is able to print from laptop to printer, although it too has had print issues and she's had to uninstall the printer and reinstall. She just printed an Excel worksheet from her laptop to printer.
I don't understand why my laptop has this issue suddenly after working consistently since I bought the laptop several years ago. I have had issues with printing from laptop to printer before, but usually is fixed when I uninstall and reinstall on my laptop. This time all solutions have failed for the my laptop.
There has to be a fix out there since it has worked mostly for several years.

I recommend you create a new user account on the computer following the steps in the below article and then install the printer and check.

I am unsure why a new user account would fix this and if it affects other users or just my laptop.
If I read correctly, you suggest then uninstalling the existing printer and reinstalling it yet again. Correct?

Try using the built-in drivers and check if you're able to print: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879
Let me know if this helps.

I tried all solutions sent by the HP responding individuals and the same issue remains: print error when trying to print from laptop to printer either via Ethernet and / or WiFi. I can print from printer, android phone, copy etc.
The only thing I have not attempted is a new Microsoft account as I do not see what that will gain me. Feels like "throwing parts at a car in hopes it will work". I did not get an answer to my question why this would help.
I find it hard to comprehend that HP cannot provide a fix for this. IF I have to buy a new printer, I seriously would not consider another HP.
Very frustrated. This just happened a few days ago when I tried to print from laptop. Need to fix please!
