Yesterday it was working fine, today after power up this error pops up (I'm italian so I don't know exactly how it translates):

"broken or missing cartridge
printing head is missing, not detected or badly installed"

GFApAENS.jpg large.jpg

And it stops there, without even reaching the main menu

Already tried the reset by unplugging, waiting 60 seconds and then powering up, the error stays the same
I also tried removing cartridges (that are original, and I didn't change them) and cleaning the copper part, and removing and cleaning the printing head
Scanner is working fine

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try connecting the Printer to a different wall outlet directly.

Also, try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Let me know if this helps.

If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the Accepted Solution and Kudos buttons, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Thanks!

Have a great day!

I have the exact same problem, and can’t do a firmware update as can’t get by the error message.  Tried cleaning the print head.. now can’t get cartridges to go back in.

HELP!?!?!?

HP Recommended

I downloaded the firmware, and I get an error message upon trying to install saying the firmware package "does not contain upgrades for your device".   I have firmware version CLP1CN2011AR .

I cleaned the print head.. no go.

The 950 and 951 ink cartridges will not reinsert - it feels like something is block them and I don't want to force it.

HELP?

@betty0610. Any help here?  I briefly for one pass got the print head to wake up and complete an alignment successfully.  Now, back to the missing print head message again.

@Betty06010. You there?

I already tried changing the power outlet (and i tried again today) but there is no improvement

I can't update the firmware, i tried the hp smart app and the update from windows (i can't access the main menu from the printer)

I downloaded the firmware from hp site but it says that it cannot be applied, so no firmware update for me

I am waiting for a delivery of a new printhead... but the general consensus from @HPsupport is that it will likely NOT work.  I also downloaded the firmware, but couldn't update it either - not sure that would have mattered anyway, as I believe an auto download from HP is what bricked it in the first place.  I do not know this to be true however, just a huge guess.

I'll post again if the new printhead works.. otherwise I believe the 8600 has been bricked by HP and 8600 owners are forced to purchase new hardware.  I've got a bunch of HP 950 XL ink, so I am motivated to get my 8600 back in action - as my ink is now also obsolete, and I've been continuously purchasing expensive HP ink with the understanding this would keep my printer operating... NOT!

The strange thing is that the printer stopped working suddenly, i litterally used it the day before and it was working just fine...

I recommend you to contact the HP Support Team regarding this as this could be a hardware issue.
