HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium e-All-in-One - N911n

Hello, every time I go to print something the printer tells me “Printer Failure” and tells me to contact HP. I’ve tried resetting the wifi many times, unplugging and plugging printer back in. and printing on many devices but nothing works.

Hi @Drewwww1_

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're facing a persistent "Printer Failure" error with your printer, despite trying basic troubleshooting steps like resetting Wi-Fi, rebooting the printer, and trying to print from multiple devices. Given that the issue remains unresolved, here’s a more targeted approach to try and fix the problem.

1. Perform a Hard Reset

To make sure there are no lingering errors, try a full power reset:

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Unplug the printer from the power source.
  3. Wait for about 1-2 minutes to ensure all power is drained.
  4. Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  5. Try printing again to see if the error message still appears.

2. Check for Hardware Issues

"Printer Failure" can sometimes be caused by hardware malfunctions. Here’s what you should check:

  • Paper Jams: Check the printer thoroughly for any paper jams. Even a small piece of paper stuck inside can cause a failure.
  • Ink/Toner Cartridges: Ensure the ink or toner cartridges are seated properly. Remove and reinsert them to make sure there are no issues with the cartridges.
  • Printer Display/Errors: If your printer has a control panel, check for any error codes or flashing lights that could provide more context for the failure.

3. Update Printer Firmware

Sometimes, printer firmware bugs can cause issues like "Printer Failure." Check for a firmware update:

  1. Download the latest firmware for your printer model from HP’s official website.
  2. If your printer is connected to Wi-Fi, some models can update automatically. Alternatively, you may be able to update through the printer’s control panel or the HP Smart app on your device.
  3. Follow the instructions to complete the firmware update and try printing again.

4. Reset the Printer to Factory Defaults

If the error persists, performing a factory reset on the printer may help resolve internal configuration issues:

  1. Go to the Settings or Tools menu on the printer's display (this varies depending on your model).
  2. Look for an option to restore factory settings or reset all settings. This will reset the printer to its original state, clearing out any configuration errors that may have occurred.
  3. After the reset, you’ll need to reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network and reconfigure any custom settings.

5. Reinstall Printer Drivers and Software

Corrupted drivers or incomplete installations can also cause errors. Here’s how to reinstall everything:

  1. Uninstall the printer from your computer. On Windows, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers, right-click the printer, and select Remove device.
  2. Download the latest drivers for your printer model from HP’s support site: HP Printer Drivers.
  3. Reinstall the printer on your computer, following the installation prompts.
  4. Try printing again after the reinstall.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
