Hello,
Every time I turn on the printer and send a document, it prints an alignment page. How do I get it to stop doing this?
Things I've done:
- scanned the alignment page to complete the alignment process
- factory reset printer
- removed printer from HP account
- uninstalled HP Smart on Windows 11 desktop
- resetup the printer from factory defaults
- readded the printer to the HP account
- reinstalled HP Smart on Windows 11 desktop
After all of these steps, I just powered on the printer and sent a document to it. It printed an alignment page and prompted for it to be scanned.
Any ideas on what to do next would be appreciated. It's relentless in asking me to do the alignment process, even though it's been completed.

Hi @MichaelShow,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your printer is repeatedly printing an alignment page every time it is turned on, even after completing the alignment process, there might be an underlying issue with the alignment settings or the printer's memory not correctly registering the completion of the process. Here are some additional steps you can try to resolve this issue:
Step 1: Complete the Alignment Process Correctly
- Ensure Proper Scanning of Alignment Page:
- Make sure that the alignment page is placed correctly on the scanner glass according to the alignment instructions.
- Close the scanner lid and press the appropriate button to start the scanning process.
- Wait until the printer completes the alignment process and confirms that it is successful.
Step 2: Check and Clean Print Cartridges
Remove and Reinsert Cartridges:
- Turn on the printer and open the cartridge access door.
- Remove the ink cartridges and check for any protective tapes that might still be attached.
- Reinsert the cartridges securely.
Clean the Contacts:
- Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer where the cartridges are installed.
- Allow the contacts to dry before reinserting the cartridges.
Step 3: Verify Paper Quality and Placement
- Use Correct Paper Type:
- Ensure that you are using the correct type and size of paper recommended by the printer manufacturer.
- Make sure the paper is loaded correctly in the input tray.
Step 4: Perform Printer Maintenance
Update Printer Firmware:
- Make sure your printer's firmware is up to date. Visit the HP support website to download and install any available firmware updates.
Run Printer Diagnostics:
- Use the printer's built-in diagnostic tools to check for any issues. This can often be accessed through the printer’s control panel under Setup or Maintenance.
Step 5: Reset Alignment Data
- Reset the Printer's Alignment Data:
- Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
- Re-initiate the alignment process as per the printer's instructions and scan the alignment page.
Step 6: Reinstall Printer Software
- Uninstall and Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners on your Windows 11 desktop.
- Remove the printer from the list of devices.
- Download the latest printer driver from the HP support website.
- Reinstall the printer driver and add the printer again.
Step 7: Reset Network Settings
- Reset Network Settings:
- If your printer is connected via Wi-Fi, resetting the network settings and reconnecting can sometimes resolve persistent issues.
- Follow the steps to reset the network settings (typically involves holding down the Wi-Fi button while the printer is on).
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
