HP DeskJet 3830 series

Hi

I followed the instructions and generated a self-signing certificate, but upon clicking finish it doesn't show anything. Hope you can help me as soon as possible. Thanks!

Hi @onethe ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with a self-signed certificate not displaying after completing the setup for your HP DeskJet 3830 series printer, it might be due to one of the following reasons. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

Step 1: Verify the Certificate Generation Process

Check the Certificate Management Area:

  • Go to the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) by entering the printer's IP address in a web browser.
  • Navigate to Settings > Security > Certificates (or similar, depending on your printer model).
  • Look for the self-signed certificate under the list of certificates. It should appear there if the process was successful.

Ensure Proper Certificate Settings:

  • Confirm that you selected valid settings while generating the certificate, such as:
    • A valid expiration date.
    • Correct Common Name (usually the printer’s hostname or IP address).

Step 2: Restart the Printer

  1. Power off the printer, wait for 30 seconds, and power it back on.
  2. Revisit the EWS and check if the certificate appears.

Step 3: Clear Browser Cache

Sometimes, the web interface might not refresh properly due to cached data:

  1. Clear your web browser cache.
  2. Access the printer’s EWS again and check the certificate section.

Step 4: Regenerate the Certificate

If the certificate doesn’t show up, regenerate it:

  1. Go to the Certificates section in the EWS.
  2. Delete any existing self-signed certificates, if possible.
  3. Create a new self-signed certificate:
    • Ensure all fields are filled correctly (e.g., hostname/IP, validity period, etc.).
    • Save the changes and click Finish.

Step 5: Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

Outdated firmware may cause issues with certificate management:

  1. Download the latest firmware for your printer from the HP support website.
  2. Install the firmware and retry the certificate generation process.

Step 6: Check Your Network Settings

  • If the printer's network settings are misconfigured (e.g., wrong IP address or hostname), it might interfere with certificate generation.
  • Ensure the printer's IP is static or reserved in your router's settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
