I seldom require colour output so could I remove the colour cartridge to stop the waste of ink on cleaning? If not, how do I set preferences so it permanently prints using black catidge only. I seem to have to change to this option every time I switch on.

Hi @john859uk,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I noticed that you are wondering if you can print without a color cartridge with your HP Deskjet F380. I am happy to look into this for you!

Basically, if you remove the color cartridge ,and it does not give you an option to continue, without it then the printer needs both cartridges to function.

You will want to begin with accessing your Devices and Printers folder (via your Control Panel) and right click on your Officejet 6700 icon and select Printing Preferences. The window that opens will be similar to the screen on the left of the screen shot below.

On that screen you will click the Advanced button and then you will see a screen similar to the one on the right of the screen shot. There you will select the Black Ink Only setting and press OK. Then press Apply on the previous screen before again pressing OK. The driver will now be set to use the black ink only.

Hope this answers your question, and thank you for posting! :generic:

Many thanks for your help. Although my device settings advance tab didn't give the same list of options as you specified, the color tab did let me change to my "black" setting which does not use the color cartridge and after restarting the laptop and trying a print it has retained the setting. Previously I could not get this result. Perhaps I clicked "apply" on the general settings tab rather than the color tab. thanks again for puting me right.

What adjustment/s need to be made to enable F380 printer to print with one black-ink cartridge?
