I have been having this same problem for quite some time. It seems, based on the others' responses that I will need to purchase a new printer in order to have this problem addressed.?. Has anyone at all had any success in remedying this false paper jam in the ADF error?

Cypress2015, I solved my false ADF Paper Jam problem eventually late last year and posted my solution...but HP took down my posting.  I repled to you yesterday and that posting is not here either.  I am assumimng they took it down, too.

None of the "canned" responses worked for me.  Nor did any of the others' solutions., like leaving the printer off for days, etc.

My solution came only after regaining access to my touch screen, which was "frozen" in the "ADF Paper Jam" state with only an "OK" visible on the touch screen.

I used the same techinque I use to break through voicemail loops that leave me in trapped in a useless set of meaningless choices:  I pressed "OK" on my touch screen quickly multiple times in succession and raised and lowered the lid at the same time and, voila, I busted out of the locked screen and my touch screen was accessible again.  From there I did a printer reset and my preinter has been working fine ever since.

I had to replace a cartridge or two...of course!...and reinstall the printer software but all has been well ever since.

After you've done the obvious checks, we did this...spin all rollers you can see, top and bottom, everytime we get this message, its with our top lid paper feeder, even though we nver use it. open automatic paper feeder cover and spin wheels at least 1 rotation, try to reset all latches and levers, seen in there, and move the feeder size to enevolpe. That works for us, for some reason. Good luck.

So, I've read through all the 'solutions'. You HP techs leave much to be desired. Comparing you to Comcast is pretty accurate. You offer no solution. your link to a 'hard reset' is broke....the 'hard reset' link I DID find doesn't really do anything either. I guess it's time to buy a new printer (It WILL NOT be an HP!)

I have exactly the same problem and am almost at the point of throwing away a perfectly good printer for a silly ADF malfunction.  Like every one else, the error message stops me from being able to do anything on the unit. In the meantime, I have been able to scan documents simply by using the HP EASYSCAN software.  I cannot use the ADF but something is better than nothing.

ps the man at HP Support was gracious enough to offer me a replacement for $699, or $100 more than I could buy one at my local BestBuy store!

I'm having the same issue.

If it any help, my error code cleared itself after around 3-4 months!  I moved the 476 down to the basement but kept it plugged in so it could serve as a heavy duty printer while I used a little HP printer as my day-to-day.  Otherwise I just left it alone. I was just about to throw the 476 away when I noticed that it was back to showing the normal home screen.  Then I was faced with the dilemma as to whether to unplug it or not in case the error came back.  I took the chance and brought it back upstairs and its been fine since.  I have scanned with the ADF (with fingers crossed) and no trouble.  Obviously I have no idea how long this will last but in the meantime......
